No. No Rivian has a factory head-up display. The R1T and R1S (first and second generation) show your speed on a driver display behind the steering wheel and everything else on the centre touchscreen, and reviewers have listed the missing HUD among their main complaints. The new R2 doesn’t list one either. You can add a plug-in HUD, but choose the type carefully: a standard OBD2 HUD won’t read data from a Rivian.
Rivian models: factory head-up display?
| Model | Factory HUD? | What it has instead |
|---|---|---|
| R1T / R1S, first generation (2022–2024) | No | Driver display behind the wheel plus a large centre touchscreen |
| R1T / R1S, second generation (2025+) | No | Driver display (not a touchscreen); since software update 2025.46 you can switch it between an autonomy view and a maps view with the right thumbwheel |
| R2 (from 2026) | None listed | 12.3-inch instrument cluster and 15.6-inch centre display |
| Commercial van (EDV) | None known | — |

It isn’t a touch screen”), Rivian’s 2025.46 software update notes, and reviews of the R1T and R2. Checked October 2026. Adding a head-up display to a Rivian
Because the Rivian is electric, pick a HUD that doesn’t need engine data from the diagnostic port:
- GPS head-up display: reads speed from satellites and runs on USB power, so it works in a Rivian like any other vehicle. Our pick: the KUOWEIHUD K1.
- CarPlay / Android Auto HUD: puts phone navigation in your sight line. The VIVIHUD V5 uses GPS for speed and works in any vehicle.
- Avoid OBD2 HUDs. Owners report the Rivian has a 16-pin port under the left side of the dashboard that supplies 12-volt power, but a community-written service guide says it doesn’t carry standard OBD data: diagnostics run over Ethernet, and generic OBD2 adapters don’t work. An OBD2 HUD may light up but won’t show your speed. Rivian’s owner’s guide doesn’t document the port.
Placement: put the unit low on the dash so it never blocks your view, and route the cable neatly. If it projects onto the windshield, apply the reflective film supplied with it, or choose a unit with its own lens. See the install guide.
Why would you want one in a Rivian?
The driver display is behind the wheel and the rest of the information is on the centre screen, so checking your speed means looking down. A small HUD keeps speed (and, with a CarPlay unit, your next turn) closer to your line of sight. If you rarely look at the cluster, you may not need one; see are car HUDs worth it?

Frequently asked questions
Does the Rivian R1T have a heads-up display?
No. Neither the first-generation nor the second-generation R1T has a factory head-up display; speed shows on the driver display behind the steering wheel.
Does the Rivian R1S have a heads-up display?
No. The R1S shares the R1T’s displays: a driver display behind the wheel and a centre touchscreen, with no HUD.
Does the Rivian R2 have a heads-up display?
None is listed. The R2 has a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 15.6-inch centre display. Rivian hasn’t made a statement about a HUD, so check the final specification.
Will an OBD2 head-up display work in a Rivian?
Probably not usefully. Owners report the Rivian’s 16-pin port provides power but not standard OBD data, so an OBD2 HUD may switch on without showing speed. A GPS or CarPlay HUD is the better choice.
